Four Signs That It Is Time to Replace Your Gas Stove

New gas stoves are expensive, so like most homeowners you try to get the longest life possible out of this appliance. Even with regular cleaning and servicing, however, your stove will eventually wear out and begin to give you signs that it is time for a new one. Most gas stoves have a life of about 10 to 15 years, although some can last longer. Here are signs that you should look for to determine it’s time to get a new one.

Burners Don’t Heat Properly

The burner is the most important element on your cooktop. If the flame it produces is no longer blue or changes from blue to red to yellow, check your grates and burner caps are clean. If they are clean, contact Intagas to have a technicians check the burners to see if the problem can be easily repaired or if you need to replace the stove.

You Smell Gas

Don’t turn on our stove. If you smell gas and the burners or oven have not been turned on, it’s an indication that there is a leak somewhere between the gas line and the stove. Open your windows and call for servicing immediately. There could be a problem with the regulators or the tubing connecting the stove to your natural gas supply.

The Control Panel Doesn’t Work

The control panel of your stove is usually the most expensive part to have replaced. When buttons no longer work or malfunction when pressed and prevent proper cooking, opt for a replacement, as it’s often less expensive than replacing the part.

It Doesn’t Turn On

Gas stoves that don’t turn on may have fault spark igniters. Sometimes the gas burner can be clogged with food debris, which is why it’s important to keep the cooktop clean. The electrical connections attached to the igniter can also come loose or wear out over time. Another problem can involve the heating element inside the oven. An oven that is slow to heat or won’t turn on at all may have this problem.

A good rule of thumb when deciding whether or not to replace the stove in your Brisbane area home is to look at the price of the repair. If the part is more than half of the cost of your appliance and it’s more than 10 years old, opt for a new stove instead of the repair.
